Places of Interest in Alicante
Looking for some places to visit in Alicante, Spain? This great city has many different things for those on holiday, but there are also a few quick things to check out if you’re there on business and only have limited sightseeing time. Either way, you’ll enjoy your time in Alicante.
The first thing to see is, of course, the famous Alicante harbour. This huge harbour offers a great view of many different boats and of the clear blue water. Watching the boats come in and out is certainly a great way to spend a relaxing afternoon. There are a number of small cafes and other restaurants that offer tasty food and drinks along the harbour. Fresh fish is always on the menu, and the harbour is very popular during the lunch hour. Remember that many of the larger restaurants in Alicante don’t open until late, so these little cafes are perfect for grabbing a light afternoon meal to tide you over.
If, on the other hand, you want to actually get in the water or do a little sunbathing, Alicante Beach is your ideal destination. The golden sands and bright waters are certainly inviting, and just like at the harbour, there are a number of cafes and other places to get snacks and beverages. You can also try crazy activities like kite landboarding, which involves being pulled across the waters on a board. Going dinghy sailing is another activity that gets you and your family out on the water, plus it’s something less dangerous than the landboarding.
Another beautiful location to explore is the Island of Tabarca. Take the ferry over to this island, which is about 11 miles from Alicante, and check out the many different types of marine life that inhabit the waters surrounding it. You can spend an entire weekend on Tabarca and not see all of the exotic sights it is home to.
Many people enjoy shopping in Alicante. One of the best areas to do this is El Corte Ingles. This huge department store can be found in just about every city in Spain, but even if you’ve been to one before, there’s no reason to skip the one in Alicante. You’ll find everything in a El Corte Ingles—shoes, homeware, clothing, toys, cosmetics, music, movies, books, and much more. The best thing about El Corte is that they offer brand- and designer name items for much less than you’d pay elsewhere. Another great shopping area is the market located near the harbour. You’ll find jewellery, decorations, local items, and much more. Even if you’re not shopping, the tree-lined promenade is a great place to take a walk.
Of course, if you decide to go on a huge shopping spree, you may want to look into car hire alicante airport. You’ll need some way to get all those large shopping bags back to your hotel, and you certainly don’t want to try to get them all on a bus or train!
